Dr. Maxwell Gilliam

Dr. Gilliam is a fun-loving, articulate, and gentle spirit. He enjoys photography, boating, and swimming. Additionally, Dr. Gilliam is an avid gardener . He is extremely knowledgeable in political science , religion, and history. Dr. Gilliam, a dental professional for over 33 years, is known widely within the community, and has also established business and personal relationships throughout the United States. In addition to providing excellent dental care to his valued patients, Dr. Gilliam enjoys and promotes establishing close, personable relationships with his patients. He is a dentist who truly cares about the entire well-being of his patient, not just his specialty, dentistry.


Dr. Maxwell Gilliam grew up in Windsor, North Carolina. He attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia until he completed his undergraduate studies in 1982. He subsequently attended postgraduate studies at Howard University, Washington, D.C., and received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1987. Upon graduation, Dr. Gilliam participated in mobile dental teams treating elderly individuals with limited access to dental facilities in Eastern and Central North Carolina. He then moved to back to Baltimore, MD where he practiced within the John Hopkins dental system providing care for the underserved. In 1992, he relocated to North Carolina where he began his private dental practice in Jacksonville.

Dr. Connie Bruce-Gilliam

Dr. Connie Bruce-Gilliam is a board-certified pediatric dentist who enjoys daily activities like walking, biking, and yoga. A passionate reader, she enjoys vibrant book club discussions and quality time with her husband, Dr. Maxwell Gilliam, and their two daughters.


Outside of dentistry, Dr. Connie loves green, whether at social events with her AKA sorority or tending to her indoor plants and flower garden. She values building relationships with her patients and their families, believing that a strong dentist-child rapport is vital for lifelong dental health.


With over 25 years of experience, she is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and is dedicated to inspiring young people, teaching Sunday School, and sponsoring community activities like debutante balls and scholarship programs. Dr. Bruce found her passion in pediatric dentistry, nurturing the next generation's future.


Originally from Detroit, she completed her dental education at Howard University and received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1987, followed by an internship and residency
